So please finish up slideshow and begin to review notes/homework for unit test on Thursday (MArch 6th).
Today we had a work period for your Element Research project. Remember, I need a Powerpoint slideshow for Tuesday March 4th. You can put it on a USB or email me the slideshow @ [email protected] If you are using something different (ie: Mac slideshow) you need to figure out how to show it in class. This needs to be worked out ahead of time as we discussed. I can give you access to school computers at lunch if you need more time as mentioned in class.
So please finish up slideshow and begin to review notes/homework for unit test on Thursday (MArch 6th).

Period 5 completed the Bohr-Rutherford diagram lesson from yesterday. Read 6.7 and do # 1-4 at the end of this chapter. Period 2 read the chapter entitled: Carbon to Diamonds (6.8) and made a 'Cornell' note on their own. These students are to answer # 1-4 at the end of that chapter as well. Remember: Tomorrow is a work period in the computer lab. Be prepared to make progress on your powerpoint slideshow. You are presenting Tuesday March 4th.
PERIOD 2 _ Today we learned how to draw the Bohr-Rutherford drawing of an atom. Homework: Read 6.7 and complete # 1,2,3,4 on page 240. We had a hand-out today as well as a written note. The hand-out is in the binder at back of room.
PERIOD 5 - We just started our lesson today because you met with your LINK leaders. Homework: Please read 6.7 for tomorrow. Today you had a work period to research your element. The description of this assignment ( a slideshow actually) can be found on the Chemistry page under the 'Labs & Assignments' title. You will have only 1 more research day in class - this Friday and you are presenting next Tuesday - March 4th. If you need more computer time, please see me @ lunch in room #122. Homework: plug away on your element research assignment.
Today you had your open notebook quiz. The remainder of the class you learned how to make a good slideshow (there is a slideshow on how to do this on 'Other Useful Notes'). Also, you had access to encyclopedias in class to start your research on your element. Tomorrow is a WORK PERIOD. If you have a table or laptop that gets Wi-Fi you can bring it tomorrow.
Those that came today picked their element and began their research project. The open notebook quiz has been pushed forward to Monday Feb. 24th. Remember you need to bring a calculator for yourself. We have 2 days in the computer lab to help with your research project: Tuesday. Feb. 25th and Friday Feb. 28.
We learned about how our idea of what an atom looks like has changed over the years. We took a note - if you were absent, please download the note entitled, 'atomic theory' or click here. Homework: REad/scan chapter 6.6 and answer # 2,3,5 on page 233. Also remember that tomorrow is an open notebook quiz (summative). You need an organized notebook AND a Calculator! (cell phone calculators not allowed). If you wish to be really prepared, period 2 - read 'Denim to Dye for' p. 172 and period 5 read 'Antifreeze is not just for cars' p. 191
Today we finished labeling/colouring the 3 periodic tables (handed out yesterday). I read much of 6.4 to you and we used this to complete the chart on the back of the page. If you were absent, you will find these handouts in the binder at the back of the room. Homework: Read 6.4 and complete p. 225 # 1,2,3,4,6,8
Also please remember that there is an open notebook quiz (summative) on Friday so make sure your notebook is in order. You will also need a calculator (not a phone...and no...you cannot share). Arrange to have one or borrow from a friend. Today we started talking about pure substances, elements, compounds, mixtures etc. There is a handout at the back of the room if you were absent. The periodic table of elements was introduced and there is also a handout at the back of the room. Homework: Read 6.1 and do # 1,3,5,8,9 on p. 215
