Today we took up Friday's homework and then had confession preparation. For the balance of the period we talked about our case study - 12.8 in text. You will have Tuesday and Wednesday to work on it in class. It is due Friday and it is a summative assessment. Homework: Keep filling in your Energy useage charts - these are due Wednesday.

Today we watched a video that explained the advantages & disadvantages (and interesting facts) about the various methods of generating electricity. If you were absent, please read 12.5. There should be a downloadable note about 'Methods for Generating Energy" uploaded by the end of the day - please print it out or copy it. Homework: Read 12.5. Complete # 3, 5, 6, 7 on page 528. Remember to continue filling in your Energy Useage Charts. These charts are due WEd. April 2nd. (they are being marked).
Today we took a note on HOW we generate electricity. This is the start of 12.5. If you were absent, please download the note entitled "Generating Electrical Energy". I handed out a tracking sheet for you to track 5 electrical appliances and how much you use each every day for a week. We started today be naming these 5 electrical appliances (1/chart) and estimating (in hours) the amount of time we used each one YESTERDAY. Please continue this process for one week. The week will end Tuesday April 1nd. I will collect these sheets Wed. April 2nd. It will be marked. Seatwork/Homework: Sketch and label Figure 1 on page 518. Read 12.5. Start your Electrical Energy tracking sheet with yesterday's and today's useage. This chart is in downloadable form on the Electricity page. It is called "Electrical Energy - tracking my useage".
Today we had 2 notes entitled "Electrical Energy" based on chapter 5.3 and "Forms of Electrical Energy" based on chapter 5.4. Both of these notes can be downloaded from the Electricity page - look under Chapter 12 title. We also made working circuits with a battery, lightbulb and 1 (!) wire. Homework: Read 5.3 and complete # 1, 5, 8 on page 514. Read 5.4 and complete # 2, 4 on page 517. Please find and write down 5 electrical appliances you use regularly and if possible, turn it over and find the watts or kilowatts listed.
Today we learned about electric current (vs. static electricity) and electric energy. This is 12.1 and 12.2 in your text. Thereis a downloadable note named "Intro to Currents_Circuits" on the Electricity webpage. Please download and copy/print if you absent. Homework: Read 12.1 and do p. 508 # 2,3,4,6; Read 12.2 and do p. 510 # 2,4,5,6
Period 2 - today you read about / took notes about electrostatic precipitators. If you were absent, please download note 'Other uses of Static Electricity' on Electricity page. Use page476 to answer. Period 5 - We got into the computer lab to build circuits. Both classes watched Bill Nye's 'Electrical Circuits' Homework: and both classes need to read p. 504 'Midnight Sun' and answer question #1 for tomorrow. Note you need to list advantages (2 or more) AND disadvantages (2 or more).
Today we had a short formative quiz on static electricity. If you were absent (there was a retreat today), please come to room #122 at lunch on Monday to write it. Remember a 'formative' quiz is not used to crunch your report card mark, but I do mark it down and it gives you an idea of how you are doing with the new material (it's good practice!). We also watched a movie on Lightning. Homework: There is none this weekend!
We learned about Conductors and Insulators today. If absent, please print out the note entitled 'Conductors _ Insulators" on electricity webpage. We also took a short note on Discharge. If absent, please print out the note entitled 'Discharge'. Homework: Read 11.4 and 11.8. Do # 6, 7 on page 482. Read page 494 - draw and explain 'lightning rod'.
Both classes received all Chemistry work back with a summary of their Chemistry Unit mark. Please show to a parent/adult at home and get signed. Homework: Please get the Mark Sheet signed by parent and return. Also, Period 2 had some time in computer lab to work with building circuits. If you were absent, please download the sheet entitled "Guided Inquiry - Circuit Building - conductors" under chapter 11 on the Electricity Webpage. It is a self-explanatory exploration - you can do at home and be caught up. Period 5 - We did a reading assignment. If you were absent, please download the note entitled "More Uses of Static Electricity" found on the Electricity Webpage. Complete for tomorrow.
We learned how to charge an object today and had a chance to play around with charged ebonite rods. IF you were absent, please download the note "Charging an Object" from the Electricity webpage. Homework: Read 11.2 & 11.6. In class you started a Cornell note based on p. 486 - 487. complete this if you are not done. Also p. 475 # 1,5,6
