Today you had practice building series and parallel circuits with the pHet Circuit Builder. This was your second time on this simulation and you were much better at building! There are extra sheets in the binder in class if you were absent. Homework: p. 554 # 1, 2, 4, 5, 6,7 (it would be beneficial to read the chapter too!).

These 2 days we talked about electric energy (which is measured in joules ) and electric power (which is measured in watts) . Missing this note? Download 'Electrical Power' from the Electricity webpage. We also did Energy calculations today and practiced these calculations. Missed this lesson? Download and print "Energy Calculations" from the Electricity webpage. Homework: Read 12.7 - it really helps. Practice these calculations by doing: p. 535 # 2, 4, 5, 6 a) 6 d), 7
We finished the note from yesterday. Again, you can download and print it -"Generating Energy". Homework: copy and label the pie graph on page 527. Add up the renewable energy sources (hydro and wind only). What percent is this? (not too good!). Also, do # 3, 5, 6, 8 on page 528.
We started a note on Generating Electric Energy. There is a downloadable version. Homework: Read 12.5 and complete a comparison chart for the 8 types of Electricity Generation. The chart should be pros/cons of each method. it is certainly easier to print out the downloadable note! It is called "methods of generating Energy".
We did a note on Current Electricity. A version of it is downloadable - called "Intro to Current Circuits". Homework: Read 12.1 &12.2 . Do p. 508 # 2, 3, 4, 6 and p. 510 # 2, 4, 5, 6,
Today a formative quiz on Static Electricity. If you were away, there are extra copies in the binder at the side. It is good to try this formative quiz so you know how you are doing. lesson on Lightning and Discharge as well today. One is a copied note from board (get from a classmate) and one was a hand out (in binder). You were to read 11.8 yesterday. If you haven't already, it is a good thing to do. Other than that...no homework. Tomorrow we start 'Current Electricity'.
We got caught up today, taking up homework and reviewing ideas from last week. Homework: Read about Discharge (11.8) and sketch the figure explaining 'lightning rod'. you should be able to sketch this and explain how a lightning rod protects your home! Tomorrow we will have a Static Electricity formative quiz (large WBQ). Homework: Review your notes.
Today you took a note on conductors and insulators. You have ostrich feather dusters as an example of how we use this idea of conductors/insulators. Homework: Read 11.3 - that's it!
We did a note on charging objects (Charge by Friction and Charge by contact). Homework: Read 11.2 and do # 1, 5, 6, 7 at the end of the chapter.
You learned how to use the pHet Circuit Builder simulation. No homework :)
