We did do a WBQ today and prepare another 'foldable' for tomorrow but the rest of the period was for you to work on your Element slideshow.
Today we looked at Atomic Theory (6.6 in text). There is a handout. There is a downloadable note (Atomic Theory) but I have a better one I will try to upload later today. We also looked at 2 Hank Green videos about the Periodic Table and the atom. I will try to upload these links as well on the Chemistry page. Homework: #1 - get your notebook in order as you will have an open notebook quiz on Tuesday. Monday you have a work period in the library. Also, you have some questions: p. 233 # 2, 3, 5
Today we focused on 'families' in the periodic table. We filled in a handout. If you were absent, it is best if you grab a handout from the back of the room and copy from a classmate. I also gave out coloured copies of the periodic table. There are a few extra in the binder at back of the room if you were absent. Homework: Finish colouring families (3rd periodic table on previous hand out), complete a silly story using element symbols (handout at back of room). Read about Gorillas on page 214 and answer the question: How does recycling cell phones help save gorillas? Also # 1,2,3,4,6,8 on page 225. Yes...a fair bit but you had time to start in class and most is very quick and easy.
TODAY IS THE REVERSE OF YESTERDAY: Period 4: Today we started by practicing density calculations (hand out) Then we you introduced the Periodic Table (hand out to colour). We took a note on the periodic table including a bit about mercury poisoning and gorillas & cell phones. This note is not yet up on the website so please copy from a classmate. Homwork: p. 215 # 1,3,5, 8, 9 . Period 2 - You got a work period in the library to work on your element slideshow. Note: Past 2 days of homework will be taken up after the library research period for both classes but remember that all homework answers are posted at the top of the chemistry page.

We did our WBQ the Friday before March Break :)
Today we did lesson #9 on our chemistry planner. If you were absent, please download the note entitled "Char Physical Properties". Homework: Read 5.6 and complete # 3,4,7,10,12 on page 198. **We need calculators again ** Today we did a WBQ (so we wouldn't have to do it first day back from March Break!) and we learned about the Science of Diapers - p. 187 in text. There are some handouts - if you were away, please download "Keeping Baby Dry" on the Chemistry page. You can try to fill in the blanks and check with a classmate when you return. HAPPY MARCH BREAK!!!
Today you had the period to finish your Forensice Chemistry (Mystery Powder) Lab. Homework: Finish your lab for tomorrow. It is due on Friday.
Today you started your Forensic Chemisry Lab. YOu will have the entire period tomorrow to work on it. Today you should have finished your initial observations of the 5 known powders. Tomorrow you can finish observing your mystery poweder and begin writing up the lab in formal style. Lab is due FRIDAY - March 13th. That is your only homework tonight and tomorrow night. Suggestion - look over all the questions in the lab tonight so you can ask me some questions tomorrow if needed.
