Today we were in the library. You had a short open note quiz (should have taken about 10 min - 15 min. max!). The rest of the period was yours to work on slideshow. This was your last class period set aside to work on slideshow. Homework: Slideshow is due Wed. The computer room was available today at lunch for you and will be again tomorrow if you need it. Please email your completed slideshow to me by Tuesday night preferably before 9:00 p.m. email: [email protected]
Today we learned about molecules. There were several handouts. Please grab them from the binder at the side if you were absent. homework: read 7.1. Do # 1,2, 7 on page 261. (You should be able to do # 1 - 9 but we did a lot of that on our handouts. But you can do if you want more practice!).
Today you had a period in the library to work on your element research project. You were given the rubric so you know how you are earning your marks. If you misplace this, please download one from the Chemistry webpage (it's under 'Labs & Assignments'). You have one more work period - it's Monday. Homework: just work on research. Remember - open notebook quiz on Monday (before work period).
Today we walked to St. Joseph's church for our opening school mass. What a great day to walk!
Today we finished our lesson with BR diagrams. Be able to draw these with information from the periodic table. There is ALWAYS a BR diagram question on the unit test. We also looked at other ways to write information: standard notation. Isotopes are an interesting atom too. We talked about those. HOmework: Begin to look for websites about your element. We are at mass tomorrow and in the library researching Thursday.
Today we did a tough lesson - it was about Bohr-Rutherford diagrams (BR diagrams) and how to interpret those numbers on the periodic table. Homework: Read 6.7 and do # 1, 2, 3, 9 on page 240
Today we finished our note on Atomic Theory. If you were away, there is a note in the binder or you can download it from the chemistry page. Homework: Read 6.6 in your text and answer # 2,3, 5 on page 233.
We took up yesterday's homework. Please see me at lunch if you need help with it (especially if away today). We started a note on Atomic Theory - handouts in the binder at the side. Homework: A periodic table puzzle - have it finished for tomorrow. if away today, grab one from binder at side of room.
We had an introduction to the periodic table today and some of the patterns we find there. We also watched a short video about Mendeleev - the Russian scientist who we consider the 'father' of the periodic table. You were given 25 minutes of class time to start of homework: Homework: 6.1 p. 215 # 1, 3, 5, 8, 9 6.4 p. 225 # 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8. It is helpful, of course, to read these chapters too! You may have trouble with 6 & 8 on page 225 but give it a try!
