Today you received back your culminating project (concept maps - hoped they helped you study) and your Ecosystem Unit test. You were given your Biology unit mark AND your term mark going into the exam. We did a small Biology/Space review. Tomorrow....more review!
Today was your unit test. Next week (Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday) we review for your exam.
Period 2 - We had our year end mass this morning so we did not have Science class.
Period 4 - You had a work period to work on whatever needed your attention today. Homework: Both period 2 and period 4 have the Ecosystems Unit Test tomorrow. As well your culminating project (concept maps) are due tomorrow. Today you had a period to work on your Ecosystems Review (back of your planner). Tomorrow Period 4 has a work period (for any culminating projects...or to continue preparing for Science unit test). Period 2 - we do not have a class tomorrow. Homework: Remember --> concept maps due and unit test is written this Friday. Be ready.
Period 2 - We were at the Awards Assembly - we did not have Science
Period 4 - You did a GIZMO study - Pond Ecosystems. Please note that period 4 will have test question(s) associated with this GIZMO study. If you were absent, please get the work sheets from me - you can do at lunch here at school before your test or you can do at home. Today a note on Pesticides - downloadable version is available and entitled "Issues with Pesticides". You had time in class to do the following questions: Page140 # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Homework: Finish the questions if you did not do so in class. Today you did a note on farming. There is a downloadable version entitled "Farming". You had time in class to complete: p. 128 #8 (Use ‘Alternative Farming Practices on page 128 to answer) p. 134 # 7 (see chart pg. 132 to help)
p. 134 # 5 (see How Do Pesticides Work – page 134 text & table for help) . Homework: If absent, please complete the work mentioned above. Today we watched the BBC documentary "Magical Forest". A link to this video has been posted on the Biology webpage. It has beautiful nature photography and also explains some pretty un-obvious links in a forest ecosystem. You were to watch, discuss and answer the following questions: 1) How do flying squirrels and truffels help the forest trees? 2) How do ocean salmon help forest trees? and 3) Spruce budworms kill spruce tress. How does the budworm help the lynx? These questions _ & your answers should be in your notes. Homework: Keep working on your culminating project.
You received some note templates that we filled in together on the value of ecosystems, succession and biodiversity. You can download the note templates from the website: "Value of Ecosystems" and "Biodiversity". We also looked at some short video clips on the destruction of the Mt. St. Helen's volcano (1980) and the subsequent efforts of nature to rebuild the forest ecosystem (succession). These video links will be uploaded to the website. Homework: Remember that you are responsible for this information even if you aren't assigned textbook work. Continue to work on your culminating project.
