If you were absent for the test today, please note that you will be asked to write the day you return to class. Have a nice weekend!

Today students were reminded of what they need to bring to the unit test tomorrow: calculator, organized notebook, 1 page article about weather stations on Mars. We did a review 'relay' today; an activity designed to get students talking and working on review activities for the whole period. Space Unit Test tomorrow - Friday. (those absent - there is a ski trip for Phys. Ed students - be prepared to write on Monday when you return.)
Today we finished up all the little bits we still needed to do. For example: listed 4 types of galaxies (pg. 386 - list them, give a definition and sketch them if you were absent), finished our notes about star life (handed out yesterday and also found on Space webpage), and Black Holes (watched Youtube clip also found on Space Webpage). All (p. 2) or most (p . 4) of work was handed back. Homework: p. 382 # 3, 4 and p. 397 # 1,2, 5, 8, 10 - you will have to scan the chapter a bit for some answers).
Today we started by completing a survey to discover what kind of a learner are you. Are you mostly a visual, auditory or visual person? If you were absent, please grab this survey - we talked about ways to study effectively based on your results. Today we watched some videos about the formation of our solar system (nebula theory). We also watched a video about the life of a star. There was quite a few handouts today. Extras are in the binder at the back of the room. I do have the Star Worksheets uploaded but currently, don't have Nebula sheet uploaded yet. Homework: We did not get enough done today to do the Day 12 homework. Do review your notes (using some of the study ideas we talked about today).
Today your Star Wheel assignment was returned to you. If you were absent, your marked assignment will be in the blue basket at the back of the room. Remember that your Martian assignment is due tomorrow. Today we watched Chris Hadfield's TED talk about dangers in space (he went blind on a space walk). We also did a class note on health hazards that occur when you travel in microgravity. This note will be available on the space webpage - look for 'health hazards'. Homework: Finish your Martian project if not already done. Begin to reread your notes and look at the review questions on the back of your planner. Remember: Unit Test is Friday.
Today you were given your Mars Assignment; It can be downloaded from the Space webpage if you misplace it. Basically, you will use a fact sheet about Mars One project to decide if you will apply for a one-way trip to Mars. The period was dedicated to starting this assignment. Homework: Work away on the Mars Assignment. It is due Tuesday Feb. 24th. Remember - your Space Unit Test is Friday Feb. 27th. It would be a good idea to start reviewing.
Today we took up the Kuiper Belt reading and also looked at the class note on Space Exploration you helped to create (in small groups). We ended the class by looking at some Chris Hadfield videos & discussing whether we would want to be in the ISS with him. Homework - none tonight :)
Period 2 - I handed back some marked work (Alien project and WBQ) and collected your Star Wheels. We finished by watching Chris Hadfield video. Period 4 - Handed back same work and collected same work. We watched 'Journey to the Edge of the Universe' that you missed seeing last week. No homework. :)
We used our star data from Friday to calculate how old the universe is (using slope!). Next, in small groups, you wrote point form notes about how humans are exploring the universe. Homework: Read page 353 "Mysteries Beyond the Planets" and answer the questions on the handout. This is very similar to the kind of test questions you will get on your OSSLT test in grade 10.
Today we looked at Star Fingerprints. You received a handout. IF absent, please download from the space webpage. I will have it up later today. Homework: Work on Star Wheel assignment - it is due Wednesday Feb. 17
