Today we started on our concept maps (which is your culminating project). We will continue to work on tomorrow in class too. these are due Friday January 16th - NO LATE SUBMISSIONS accepted. It is a good idea to work on over the holidays...but not mandatory.

Today you built your scale model of the solar system and answered some questions about our planets. This was handed in for summative marks. Homework - none! (But please bring some 'colours' to work with tomorrow...we are working on concept maps which is your Science culminating project.
There was a handout today summarizing the key points about Our Solar System. There is a downloadable version on the Space page. Also you just began a small group assignment. if you were away today I will group you together for this assignment. You will finish and hand it in tomorrow. I also handed back your Electricity Unit test - if you were absent, it is in the bin at the side of the room.
Homework: none! We read 8.1 and 8.2 aloud paying attention to the subtitles and sub-subtitles as that is how we build a note from the text. You were given 2 note templates - set up like the text with spaces to fill in key information. You were given 30 minutes in class to begin finishing these notes. There is also some questions after 8.1 to do. These notes will be up on the website. 'Touring the Night Sky' and 'The Sun'. Homework: Finish the sheets and questions for tomorrow.
A number of you were away for sports and other things. Be ready to write your unit test Monday.
We had Mass during science class today. Homework: Make sure you are ready for your electricity test tomorrow!

Homework: prepare for your unit test - THursday. If you didn't hand in your Electricity case study today, you need to hand it in tomorrow BEFORE WE GO TO MASS!
Today we took up work and the balance of the period was given to working on your electricity case study. It is due tomorrow, Wednesday, but if you are swamped for time I will accept Thursday BEFORE WE GO TO MASS!! Homework: Finish the electricity case study. page 537: K & U: a, b, c, d Inquiry: e, g, k Application: p, q o and Bonus (if you wish) (h).
We reviewed how current and voltage is affected in series and parallel circuits. We also looked at Ohm's Law and practiced the math (there is a formula). IF you were absent, read 13.9 and 13.10 and see me for some help with these ideas. It will be best to copy the note from a classmate when you return. Homework: Rad 13.9 and 13.10 and do p. 570 # 2, 4, 5, 7
Today we took up ALL the math calculations from Thursday. Remember that using the GRASP method is always expected. Homework: Complete the 1st stage of the power calculations regarding your 5 appliances that you tracked. 1st - total up the kWh for each of the 5 appliances. 2nd - calculate the cost to use this appliance for the week. Homework: Complete this and hand in tomorrow (Wed). It will be marked and returned Thursday as we will be doing more with this.
