More practising with balancing equations today and preparing for another lab Wed. March 2nd. Please be ready to go with lab on WEd. You will need to be familar with what you are doing because it is a busy lab (much more going on than the first lab we did). Also, please watch the bus announcements tomorrow morning. We are expecting a LOT of snow but it isn't starting until 7 a.m.

Lesson #13: 4 types of reactions: synthesis/decomposition, single displacement and double displacement. There is a downloadable note titled: "Types of Chemical Reactions". We had 3 worksheets - extras are in binder. Homework: REad 6.5, 6.6 and do p. 239 #1,2,4 (syn/decom) p. 243 #3,4 (SD, DD) and p. 236 #7 g-n (balancing)
Today we learned how to count atoms. Homework: Read 6.3 and 6.4 and Do 232 # 2, 6. p. 236 # 4, 8, 7a-f.
Lesson #11 - Today we ran the mass lab. There were some students absent. You will need to see me @ lunch tomorrow to run this lab yourself. Homework: Write the lab up - see "Mass Lab 2015" found under the 'Labs' subtitle on the Chemistry page. This lab is due on Googledocs (please share with me) by Friday Feb. 26 9:00 a.m. YOu will need to hand in the rubric too - lost it? Print out another one from webpage. "Mass Lab 2015".
We went over safety procedures and WHMIS symbols today. We also all got on our school google account to start a science folder that is shared with me, your teacher. Then you started your lab report and put it in your file. Tomorrow we will do the lab.
Lesson 10: Today we had the 3 compound quiz. We also took a note on describing chemical reactions. Homework: Read 6.1 and complete # 1,2,3,4 on page 227.
Lesson 9: Today we spent the period learning to tell the difference between ionic, polyatomic and molecular compounds. We completed an organizing chart. You can download it "Comparing Molecules Organizer". Homework: go over this week's work - you have a summative quiz on Monday.
Today a lesson on molecular compounds. We built models too. Homework: Read the chapter on molecular compounds and complete the associated homework - see your planner for specific details. There is a downloadable note: "molecular covalent bonding".
Today I was away at a teacher workshop. You saw 2 videos on polyatomic compounds (there are links to these on the chemistry page). Seatwork - was to read the chapter on polyatomic compounds and do the associated homework - see the planner.
Today we learned what an ion is and why they form. They also join together to form ionic compounds. There are downloadable notes: "ions" and "forming ionic compounds". Homework - see the planner.
