Lots of practice today!! Your lab is due tomorrow. That's it!
Today we ran 'Putting it all Together' lab. You did 6 reactions. You received a handout describing the lab. On the back, it included the questions you need to answer and the marking rubric. A formal lab is due Thursday March 28th. Homework: Start on your lab. Wednesday we will have a reaction review that will help with the lab, but you can start and do what you can. I can be in room #104 tomorrow (tuesday) at lunch if you need to run something again. let me know in class if this is the case.
You had a worksheet to complete. All the answers are in the text and pretty straight forward to find. This was practice of 'reading for information'. If you were absent, please download 'Combustion and Corrosion Overhead' from Chemistry page or click here. I know it's says 'overhead', but don't worry about that. Homework: Complete the sheet! You are responsible for knowing this for a unit test.
We did a discovery activity to describe 5 types of reactions. If you were absent, please download and print the note on types of reactions on the Chemistry page or click here. Homework: p. 239 # 1, 2, 4 (syn, decomp) p. 243 # 3, 4 (single, double displacement) and p. 236 #7 g-n (more balancing). Now there is a lot of balancing practise here. For sure do the theory questions and if pressed for time, choose just some of the reactions to balance.
Today in Science class you had a chance to write a practice OSSLT question. You also had the chance to receive some feedback about it. Tomorrow we will resume with Science lessons! No homework.....
We self-marked our labs today and handed them in. We took a note on Law of Conservation of Mass (6.3) and Balancing Equations (6.4). We practised in class. There is a downloadable note on Balancing Equations - see Chemistry page or click here. Homework: p. 232 # 2, 6 (conservtion) p, 236 4, 8, 7 a-f (balancing)
We took a brief note on what Cost vs. Benefit means. Click here for note or see chemistry page. If you were away, please read page #167 and see why we don't use heroin as a cough syrup (even though it works!).
We completed as a class, the back of the 'Hazardous Waste' hand out and looked at the cost/benefit of common items. Homework: I gave a hand-out of cost/benefit of various chemicals you are not so familar with. CLick here for it or see Chemistry page. complete this - don't forget the question at the bottom of the page. |
