You had the period to work on your lab or your presentation. Be aware of due dates listed to the right.
If you were away for the lab, please see me at lunch on Monday. Be quick! This lab takes a bit of time. Homework: Start working on your lab analysis. You have a work period tomorrow in the library. It can be used to work on lab (formal style) or to work on your chemical reaction presentation. Come prepared to work! Remember, you only have 3 min each for your presentation. Get right to the point.
Homework: Read over the lab handout - you need to know what to do tomorrow! Notice we have the lab (formal style) due Tuesday oct. 1st and presentations are Wed. and Thursday (2nd and 3rd) of same week. Yes...busy time. That's why you have all period Friday (Sept. 27) to work on either lab or presentation. Plan to bring what you need to use this time to your advantage!
More balancing practice. Seatwork and homework: Read 6.9 and 6.10 and answer corresponding questions. These questions are fair game for the unit test. Questions can be found on Chemistry page or click here.
Today we did an activity to help you understand the 4 basic types of reactions. If you were absent, you can find the note "Types of Reactions' on the chemistry page or click here. Homework: Read 6.5 and 6.6. Do p. 239 # 1, 2, 4 and p. 243 # 3, 4. There was also a handout to do.
We took up homework and went to see the football game! Homework: prepare for the WBQ on Monday. Reread 6.1 - 6.4 - that will help. Also check answers from the week's homework and make sure you are on the right track.
Practise, practise, practise. There is a downloadable note you should have (if absent) entitled Balancing Tips. Find on chemistry page or click here. WE had a handout (in bin @ back if you were away). Homework: Also, do # 7 on page 236. Be prepared for class tomorrow - many hadn't done their homework for today. :(
We spent time marking the formal labs (self-assess or peer-assess). Marks will be recorded formatively. You also received your compound quiz back marked. If you were absent, find yours in the 'bin' at the back of the room. We did a note on Balancing Chemical Equations - you can download click here or on Chemistry page. There was also a handout - also in bin if you were absent. Homework: Read 6,3 and 6.4 - Do p. 232 # 2,6 (conservation). p. 236 # 4,8, (equations & balance)
We took a note on WHMIS. Make sure you know the symbols (p. 603 or inside front cover). We also watched a video on lab safety (it's on the chem. page if you missed it - Ultimate Lab Safety). Homework: Complete your lab write-up. Remember to write up as a formal lab! The 'Other Useful Notes' page has some helpful documents that I showed you in class.
